Individualized assessments and supports give people the edge they need to work toward their employment goals.  With over 20% of the adults who choose our services employed in competitive community based jobs, BHSSC continually seeks new opportunities for people to develop their work related skills.

Our visual assessment materials paired with adaptive technology help people determine their aptitudes, interests and skills.  From there, a plan is developed which might include:

  • Employment-related individualized classroom curriculums
  • BHSSC contracts such as the South Dakota Department of Health Distribution Center at our Pleasant Valley Campus
  • Work Crews at locations such as the Deadwood Trolleys, Career Learning Center in Rapid City, Bureau of Land Management in Sturgis, Winner’s Circle in Hot Springs, Evans Plunge, Pine Hills Retirement Facility and the Hot Springs Public Library.
  • BHSSC-owned Dove Creek Designs and Dove Creek Gallery and Gifts
  • Skill-building volunteer opportunities in local communities at locations such as animal shelters, assisted living centers and local day care facilities
  • Project Skills paid work experience for eligible 16-21 year olds
